USA vice-president Mike Pence told Pakistan's prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi that his country "must do more" against the Taliban and other militants, the White House said on Saturday. The meeting was held at the request of Abbasi.

During the 30-minute meeting, Pence emphasised the need for immediate action from Pakistan to stop cross-border attacks.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, was updating reporters with his assessment of Pakistan's efforts to counter the militants since Trump announced last year he would withhold $2 billion a year in military aid unless Islamabad takes more vigorous action.
