Fodder scam: Special CBI court to pronounce its judgment today

Fodder Scam Verdict in forth case against Lalu Prasad today

On Friday, the special CBI court had accepted Lalu's petition demanding the trial three senior officials posted in the Bihar accountant-general's office in the 1990s.

Judgment in fodder scam case RC38A/96, involving RJD chief Lalu Prasad and 30 others, was once again deferred till Monday as Special CBI Judge Shivpal Singh went for training for two days.

The court today heard the petition and would decide it tomorrow, according to Prasad's counsel.

The hearing in the fodder case - relating to fraudulent withdrawals of Rs 3.13 crore from December 1995 to January 1996 from the Dumka treasury - was completed on March 5 and the verdict was fixed for March 15.

Reacting to the events in the house, Modi said, "If they feel that their leader Lalu Prasad is being falsely implicated in the case of shady deals, they should move to the court to seek remedy".

Lalu is already serving jail term of 13.5 years in three fodder cases and is lodged in the Birsa Munda jail in Ranchi.

The multi-million-rupee scam, famous as fodder scam, surfaced in the 1990s when Lalu Prasad was Chief Minister of undivided Bihar.

This is the second time that the verdict in the case has been postponed, RJD chief Prasad's counsel Prabhat Kumar said. In two earlier cases, he was sentenced to five years, and three-and-a-half years in prison.

A special CBI court on 24 January sentenced Lalu Prasad and Jagannath Mishra to five years in jail in a fodder scam case related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.62 crore from the Chaibasa treasury.

Prasad has been lodged in the Birsa Munda jail at Ranchi since 23 December previous year after being convicted in the second case pertaining to illegal withdrawal of money from the Deogarh treasury.
