Venus Williams Keeps it Rolling at WTA Indian Wells; Semis Preview

Because 20 years ago Venus made her first trip to the Indian Wells semifinals at age 18. "I thought I was in control of the point and winning the point, and she turned it around".

Ecstatic with her victory, Venus said that she was satisfied to play deep in such big tournament and earn a victory with huge margin. "It's just real talent".

The No. 8-seeded Williams kept building on her early-round win over sister Serena, on Thursday beating Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3, 6-2.

That record was never in danger of being halted against Suarez Navarro after she converted four of her five break points. Kasatkina hasn't been in this spot often at just 20 years old, so it will be interesting to see how she deals with nerves, but this is clearly a breakthrough moment for the young Russian.

She advanced to the quarter-finals with a three-set win over World No 2 Caroline Wozniacki, who won the Australian Open in January.

Halep is the only former Indian Wells victor left in the women's draw after No. 20 Daria Kasatkina upset No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki, 6-4, 7-5.

Kasatkina hopes to make the second final appearance of the year and her fourth final appearance of her career.

Kasatkina, who is ranked 19th in the world, has beaten all four reigning Grand Slam winners in the past year, including US Open victor Sloane Stephens in the third round in Indian Wells.

"I'm playing best matches against the best players", Kasatkina said.

"I got to play aggressive tennis as much as I can".

Halep improved to 17-1 this year and needs only to reach the final to stay at the top.

That's the same Serena Williams, by the way, who Venus beat in the second round at Indian Wells 2018 - 6-3, 6-4. Osaka's victims have included Maria Sharapova, No. 31 Agnieszka Radwanska and No. 5 Karolina Pliskova.

Indian Wells: Daria Kasatkina defeated her second straight top-10 player as she needed less than an hour to rout Angelique Kerber and book her first Indian Wells semi-final on Thursday.

"Of course it was not easy", she said.

"I don't care what's happening on court, I just try to execute my game", Williams said. "I think everything is pretty solid".

The results (quarterfinals): Roger Federer bt Chung Hyeon 7-5, 6-1; Borna Coric bt Kevin Anderson 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
