The United States Falls In World Happiness Rankings — Again (Video)

This year's report also focused on migration within and between countries, it evaluated 117 countries by the happiness and well-being of their immigrants, with Finland also ranked at number one.

Finland has emerged as the happiest nation in the world in the sixth World Happiness Report.

Variables such as healthy life expectancy, social support, and corruption are considered when assessing the level of people's happiness in a given country.

Social support refers to whether a person feels that they have relatives or friends who they can count on, should they find themselves in a troublesome situation. The generosity factor refers to whether individuals donate to charity.

In 2013, the National Academy of Sciences issued a report recommending that federal statistics and surveys, which normally deal with income, spending, health and housing, include a few extra questions on happiness because it would lead to better policy that affects people's lives. In these countries, there was a sample size of more than 100 foreign-born respondents.

Finland switched places with last year's victor Norway who came in at No.2 among 156 countries, with Europe's Nordic nations having dominated the index since it was first introduced in 2012.

The penalties also include the first use of new powers that Congress passed previous year to punish Moscow for election meddling. Hageman on Thursday said the company does not comment on security matters.

In Asia, Israel finished first occupying the 11th spot, while United Arab Emirates came second at rank 20, followed by Qatar (32) and Saudi Arabia (33).

America's declining happiness level strangely contrasts the optimistic economic conditions during same time period as shown by numbers and government reports. Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia made up the remainder of the top 10.

In the 2018 list, the top 10 countries shifted spots compared with the 2017 report, but none dropped out of the top 10 list (which means there were no new entries this year).

In 2016, Nigeria stood at 103 position in the World and sixth in Africa respectively in the annual global happiness index.

Other major powers didn't crack the top 10 rankings, either.

Finland's ambassador to Thailand, Satu Suikkari-Kleven, said she was happy her country was ranked at No.1 on both the general Happiness Index and Immigrant Happiness.
