Microsoft plans to open data centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the first in the Middle East, as the software maker seeks to capitalise on the region's growing demand for digitisation.

The partnership means Microsoft's Azure customers can take advantage of WANdisco's Fusion continuous data replication technology across both on-premise and cloud environments for their on-demand data analytics and offsite disaster recovery implementations. French customers can start using Azure and Microsoft Office 365 out of that region as of Wednesday, while support for Dynamics 365 in that region will follow early next year.

Microsoft has a long history of collaborating with customers to navigate evolving business needs and has developed strategies to help customers prepare for the new European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). "This will accelerate new investments and job opportunities across the Middle East". Our engagement with financial institutions and regulators in Switzerland over the past several years has led to a deeper understanding of the market and the opportunity for locally delivered, trusted enterprise cloud services to meet their unique requirements.

The regulation will be made available from May 25th, 2018. This new cloud offering will complement the options now available for customers today.
