Increase in suppliers lead to more labor violations for Apple

Apple releases 2018 Supplier Responsibility Report, highlights progress in India

Take a look at Apple's 12th Supplier Responsibility Progress Report in its entirety here.

Three of the violations were by suppliers who practiced bonded labor. "And we share our vision, processes, and results openly - because we believe transparency keeps us accountable to ourselves and the world, while allowing others to learn and benefit from our experience".

It also has a Zero Waste Program, and in the two years since it launched, all of Apple's Chinese and Indian final assembly locations have achieved Zero Waste certifications, and its newest facility will get certification this year. The annual report looks at how Apple's many suppliers are "treating people with dignity and respect, providing advancement opportunities and conserving out planet's resources", all "fundamental to how an Apple product is made". They were charged a total of $1million to work for the supplier.

It touches upon maternal health as well as self-examination for early cancer detection, nutrition and personal care. Our goal is to reach 1 million women by 2020.

"We believe that everyone making Apple products deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and we're proud that nearly 15 million people understand their workplace rights as a result of the work we've done over the years".

Furthermore, Apple says that several smelting facilities and refineries were dropped because they refused to participate in required third-party auditing.

"We believe that everyone making Apple products deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and we're proud that nearly 15 million people understand their workplace rights as a result of the work we've done over the years", Apple COO Jeff Williams said in a statement.

Additionally, Apple worked with some of its large suppliers and Beijing Normal University on a new program to address challenges recruiting qualified factory line leaders.

Ferrari's Vettel goes fastest in testing
He was 0.315s slower than the Haas after completing a similar style of run alternating between quick laps and cool-down laps. The initial indications suggest Mercedes has the edge while Ferrari and Red Bull were close to each other.

Apple repaid a total of $1.9million to 1,558 people who were affected by bonded labor previous year.

The company said it conducted 756 assessment in 30 countries, 26 percent of which were first-time assessments.

"We believe that everyone making Apple products deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and we're proud that nearly 15 million people understand their workplace rights as a result of the work we've done over the years", Jeff Williams, Apple's COO, said in the company's press release.

Apple's annual audit of conditions has revealed that the trend among its 756 suppliers was towards higher compliance with Apple's code of conduct.

Apple suppliers have breached the firm's core labor rules 44 times in the previous year, according to a new audit. Exceptional or high performers scoring 90 points or more accounted for 59%, up from 47% in 2016.

But on the debit side, Apple uncovered 44 "core violations" - double the 2016 total - with issues ranging from falsifying working hours to harmful environmental practices. Those included three instances of employees forced to pay excessive fees for a job, a practice Apple banned in 2015. In one example, a supplier charged 700 workers in the Philippines a total of one million United States dollars in recruitment fees for securing their jobs there. Apple said when it finds that a supplier falsified data, it notifies the chief executive of the offending supplier and puts the supplier on probation until a fix is implemented.

On Wednesday, Apple also issued its conflict minerals report, which is required by USA securities regulators. Six left of their own accord.
