US Sanctions N. Korea for Killing of Leader's Half-Brother With VX Chemical

US greets talk of North Korea nuclear concessions with hope, skepticism

Conservative opposition leaders expressed concern during Wednesday's meeting at Seoul's presidential palace that North Korea could use the talks as a way to reduce the pressure, and also questioned whether the North in genuinely interested in abandoning its nuclear weapons. The two Koreas have held unprecedented diplomatic talks.

Before leaving for North Korea, Chung told reporters that he will convey the South Korean president's hopes for North Korean nuclear disarmament and permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.

However previous talks with North Korea have come to nothing, and some United States and South Korean officials have suggested the North may be trying to buy time to develop weapons programmes and to seek relief from biting sanctions. -North Korea dialogue is in progress.

These drastic concessions are nearly unbelievable considering the fact that Kim had heretofore repeated provocative remarks.

Later at a press conference, the president was asked why Kim may have had a change of heart.

Tensions rose to the highest level in years over North Korea's nuclear and missile programmes, which it pursues in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions, with shrill, bellicose rhetoric coming from both Kim Jong Un and Trump.

Mr. Kim also reportedly said that he would "understand" if the South goes ahead with delayed joint military exercises with the us that usually infuriate Pyongyang, a senior official at the South's presidential office added. Kim's regime was developing nuclear weapons not to threaten other countries but to protect the nation, the newspaper claimed.

The women, who are Vietnamese and Indonesian, were thought to have been sent by North Korea and given the VX chemical weapons agent by a regime member. "What we are looking for is concrete steps toward denuclearization".

Second Nor'easter hits the East Coast, homes without power
The wind knocked gobs of slush and snow off buildings and trees in Philadelphia and NY , forcing pedestrians to watch out. Gusts of up to 60 mph were forecast on Cape Cod, 45 mph at the Jersey shore and 30 mph around suburban Philadelphia.

The North has repeatedly said in the past that it won't negotiate over its nuclear program and vowed to bolster its nuclear and missile arsenals.

The finding triggered another layer of United States economic sanctions against Pyongyang, just as South Korea reported that the regime is ready for talks to end a nuclear standoff.

The new sanctions took effect upon the publication of US' finding about the murder of Kim Jong Nam in the Federal Register on Monday, Nauert said.

The summit achieved little, except that North Korea scored cash and food for its teetering economy. But the issue is not so simple.

If Moon accepts Kim's invitation to visit Pyongyang it would be the third inter-Korean summit talk.

Pyongyang's news agency blamed the United States as the "main obstacle" to unification with the South.

"There's enough traffic on the roads, enough people trying to get around the country to the various locations not to run truck convoys and military exercises and shut down roads", Mattis said, calling the delay in the exercises "not that unusual".
