No missile talks until West gives up its N-weapons: Iran

General Aoun inspects the Third Intervention Regiment on Thursday NNA

"It's not France's business to tell us what kind of missiles we should have", Ali Akbar Velayati said Wednesday.

Senior officials held a first meeting on the sidelines of last month's Munich security conference, focusing on Iran's role in the Yemen conflict.

A senior Iranian military official said here on Saturday that Iran will not negotiate its missile programme unless Europe and the U.S. destroy their nuclear weapons and missiles.

Velayati said statements by French officials regarding Iran's missile work will do them no good, urging the French foreign minister to avoid repeating them.

The rebellion against Syrian dictator Bashar Assad wouldn't require Iran to deploy medium range missiles to the country, especially given that the Russian Air Force is also involved on their behalf.

Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that the country's missile program is merely for defensive and deterrent purposes, warning that it is not open to any negotiations.

Under the United States pressures, Europe has stepped up pressures on Iran to start negotiations on the country's developing missile programme.

Trump has repeatedly described the JCPOA, which was negotiated under his predecessor Barack Obama, as "the worst and most one-sided transaction Washington has ever entered into", a characterization he often used during his presidential campaign, and threatened to tear it up.

"The condition for negotiating Iran's missiles is the destruction of the nuclear weapons and long-range missiles of the United States and Europe, Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Masoud Jazayeri said, according to a Reuters report of an Iranian state media broadcast".

The U.S. concerns about Iran's nuclear power stem from "their failures and defeats in the region", Jazayeri said.
