Winter Olympics 2018: Krushelnitckii stripped of bronze medal after admitting doping offence

Alexander Krushelnitsky is reported to have failed a drugs test for meldonium

To make matters worse, Alexander Krushelnitsky could lose the bronze medal he and his wife Anatasia Bryzgalova won in mixed doubles curling.

The findings could jeopardize the bronze medal Krushelnitckii won as part of a mixed doubles team with his wife, Anastasia Bryzgalova.

Earlier the International Olympic Committee claimed that it is possible that the Russians can march with the flag of their country and in their national uniform at the closing ceremony of the Games on Sunday.

More than 168 Russian athletes - including Krushelnitsky - competed as an "Olympic Athlete from Russia" under the Olympic flag after Russia's formal Olympic team was banned from the Pyeongchang Games for doping at the Sochi Winter Games four years ago.

If Krushelnitskiy is confirmed to have tested positive for a banned substance, it will not be the first case of doping at the PyeongChang Olympics after a Japanese short-track speed-skater tested positive for a banned diuretic.

In a statement to Russian news agency TASS, Krushelnitsky said he has "never either violated the rules of sports or used doping". "I hope this will not influence the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on February 24 on the return of Russian Federation into the Olympic family".

Vettel says Ferrari has learnt from its mistakes past year and are "completely fired up" to beat rivals Mercedes in the upcoming season.

The Russian Olympic delegation in Pyeongchang has launched an investigation into the case and has said it can not explain how meldonium got into Krushelnitsky's body.

Krushelnitsky is awaiting the results of a second sample, which will determine whether he used the substance that increases blood flow and improves exercise capacity in athletes.

Russian curling federation president Dmitry Svishchev said Russian curlers had been tested on 22 January before flying out to South Korea and the tests were negative.

Vybornov said a "B" sample taken from the athlete will be analyzed within 24 hours, but did not name the athlete or the sport involved.

All of the Russian athletes in Pyeongchang were invited to join a neutral "Olympic Athletes from Russia" squad after presenting evidence that they had not cheated.

Widespread doping by Russians at the 2014 Winter Olympics led to the team being banned from this year's Olympiad. It's a unusual story.
