British IOC member expelled from Winter Games

Adam Pengilly represented Britain at two Olympic Games before becoming an IOC member

The outspoken critic of IOC President Thomas Bach has denied pushing the guard.

The IOC expelled member Adam Pengilly from PyeongChang in an expedited fashion because his admitted impropriety came during the Olympic Games.

"We know that Pengilly has expressed his apologies to the security guard and the local organising committee", an official with the local organising committee said. "His mandate as an International Olympic Committee member will expire on 25 February".

Spokesman Mark Adams on February 16 said it was because the incident happened during the games and because Pengilly had acknowledged his behavior.

"We presume that because he admits it, there is no presumption of innocence", Adams said.

Pengilly is a former skeleton slider who competed at the 2006 Torino Olympics and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games.

Adams said he could not comment if the IOC Ethics and Compliance officer confirmed reports of a physical altercation.

Adams repeatedly described the security guard involved as a volunteer, but officials later said it involved a paid security guard.

Mr Pengilly said that he wanted his focus to be on athletes and help eradicate doping that's use had become far too commonplace for sport and the spirit of the Olympic Games.

The statement gave no details on the incident.

It is believed to be the first time an IOC member has ever been sent home for disciplinary reasons during an Olympic Games. "I'm also sorry for swearing and I hope you did not misunderstand what I was saying". He admitted that he made some errors, he has left the country now. "The guard added that Pengilly threatened him, telling him he would never work in Korea anymore if he tells his supervisor about the incident".

"I have made a mistake and my behaviour was poor, I wholeheartedly apologise and wish you well for the future".

Hickey is still fighting and denying claims that he was involved in a ticketing scandal surrounding Rio 2016, while Nuzman is accused of involvement in the paying of bribes in return for International Olympic Committee member votes for the Brazilian city's successful bid in 2009.
