YouTube and Instagram face Russian bans

Russia Threatens YouTube, Instagram Over Videos Of Kremlin Official And Oligarch

The Google-owned video sharing giant has responded by threatening to delete the open source videos and Instagram posts that form the backbone of Navalny's inquiry.

The videos first emerged on the Instagram account of Anastasiya Vashukevich, a woman working as an escort under the name Nastya Rybka, who claims to have had an affair with Deripaska.

Navalny makes these claims about the August 2016 boat trip by triangulating Rybka's social media posts and book with geolocation and publicly available maritime and aviation records.

It has also requested that YouTube take down Navalny's video investigation and his Anti-Corruption Foundation deletes articles about the matter. He also alleges that Deripaska was updating Prikhodo on the 2016 USA presidential campaign, with information that he had received from Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign manager. According to Navalny's video, Rybka's posts and book show that metals magnate Oleg Deripaska treated Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Prikhodko to a lavish weekend aboard his yacht in the days leading up to the 2016 US election.

Now, however, both YouTube and Instagram may face a very real choice: bow to the censorship demands of Rozcomnadzor or face full site-blocks in Russian Federation.

If the content is not removed from YouTube and Instagram the services could be blocked in the country, because not all providers of the internet are able to disable separate pages.

The Ladies From 'Parks And Rec' Celebrated Galentine's Day Together
She , like many other women, have used this day to promote positive personal care and motivated all to make a difference. We're not talking mega-spenny here - it's definitely the thought that counts here.

The material was said to have been sourced from a woman's Instagram account, where it had been posted in 2016.

If neither Mr Navalny nor the USA tech firms involved delete or otherwise block local access to the imagery by the end of the day, then Russia's ISPs will be required to take action themselves.

A February 14 deadline that Navalny said was set by Roskomnadzor passed without incident, but reports that navalny.com was inaccessible for many in Russian Federation began flowing in on February 15.

Navalny's report caused a potentially embarrassing splash ahead of a March 18 election in which Putin, who has been president or prime minister since 1999, appears certain to win a new six-year term but is said to be hoping for a convincing victory that would strengthen his mandate and further cement his power.

He also obtained a court order demanding the removal of 14 Instagram posts and seven YouTube clips, and Roskomnadzor based its demand for the deletion of the materials on that order. "If you take any of my anti-corruption investigations or any points from my political platform, I'm sure the majority of Russian citizens would support me - and that's why I wasn't allowed to run".
