Users majorly reported that security standard of Windows 10 had been inspiring for their move to Windows 10. As per an earlier report, Windows 10 is said to finally be the most popular version of Windows out there, edging out 8-year-old Windows 7. Microsoft says that Windows Defender ATP is a suite of tools, and "it was engineered to challenge traditional AV solutions and bring our customers on a journey to next-gen security", the company explained.
Formerly a Windows 10 exclusive, Microsoft today announced that Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) is coming to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
Windows Defender ATP is a post-breach detection service originally associated with Windows 10 clients, which was unveiled nearly two years ago. Users will be able to see all detections and events across their Windows flavors in Windows Defender Security Center, the cloud-based console for Windows Defender ATP.

Organizations can use their own client security solutions with Windows Defender ATP, although Microsoft's announcement suggested that it works better when used with either Windows Defender Antivirus for Windows 10 or System Center Endpoint Protection for "down-level" Windows operating systems (namely, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1). It appears that the company is finally back to its old form, taking care of all the operating systems until they are out of support. With this, security teams can benefit from correlated alerts for known and unknown adversaries, additional threat intelligence, and a detailed machine timeline for further investigations and manual response options. According to Microsoft, it's making the change so all its customers have "the best security possible", irrespective of their current platform.
Microsoft also mentions that Defender ATP can run side by side with third-party antivirus solutions. The decision to support Windows 7 comes in spite of that operating system having less than two years of support left; its extended support period ends in January 2020. "With Windows 10 we built the most secure Windows ever, by hardening the platform itself and by developing Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) - a unified endpoint security platform that helps stop breaches".
The solution is expected to become available to administrators this summer, but customers will get access to a public preview of this down-level EDR solution in spring.
