Pakistan launches crackdown on 2 charities

Will challenge Pakistan government's 'illegal' ban on charities Hafiz Saeed

Reaction from Saeed came hours after Pakistan, apparently under United States pressure, took control of a seminary and four dispensaries run by his outfits Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and Falah-i-Insaniat Foundation (FIF).

Earlier in November past year, FATF at its plenary in Buenos Aires had asked Pakistan provide a compliance report on actions taken against Lashkar-e-Taiba and JuD at Paris meeting.

Even as Pakistan started taking over all the moveable and immovable assets of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and the Falah-i-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF), Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed said on Thursday that he would move court against the government order that was issued to "please America and India".

The seminary has been handed over to the Auqaf department which controls the religious properties, Dawn reported.

Aslam said he did not have an exact number of offices and seminaries involved in the asset seizure but data was being compiled in all four districts of Rawalpindi division and he expected full details of the assets. "The district administration teams have visited the seminaries but JuD has denied any link with the madressahs", said a senior official of the district administration. A similar operation would be launched in Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum.

Here's What Cavs Offered Clippers In Failed DeAndre Jordan Deal
A trade for Jordan would have rebuilt the Cavs in totally different way than their trades with the Lakers, Jazz, and Kings did. Cleveland blew the doors off the Celtics in Boston on Sunday and held off the Thunder in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

"The government is confiscating the JuD and FIF's assets just to appease U.S and India, which is affecting our humanitarian services, especially in health and education sectors across the country", Yahya Mujahid, a JuD spokesman, told reporters.

Pakistan has recently taken several actions against the entities banned by the UN. FATF's meeting is scheduled to take place in Paris from February 18 to 23.

The action comes days before a meeting by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global money laundering watchdog, which will consider a US -sponsored motion to place Pakistan on a list of countries failing to prevent terrorism financing.

Observers believe Pakistan's swift action against Saeed's charities was aimed at avoiding inclusion in the FATF watch list. The order was signed and issued by Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan had banned two so called charities of Hafiz Saeed after quietly amending its anti-terror laws to ban terrorist organisations listed by the United Nations.
