Wanted Indian Mujahideen terrorist arrested

"This is a big success", declared Pramod Singh Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Special Cell, who oversaw the operation that led to Khan's arrest.

Kushwaha added that Khan was an expert bomb maker, conspirator and executioner.

A special cell of the Delhi police arrested a top Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative from Nepal on Wednesday, February 14.

Times Now reported that Khan is wanted suspect for his alleged role in the 19 September, 2008, serial blasts in Delhi in which 30 people killed. He is responsible for deadly terror strikes in which about 165 persons were killed and over 535 were injured.

Reports suggest that during the Batla House encounter, two suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists - Mohammed Sajid and Atif Amin - were killed by the security forces.

Khan (32) had escaped from India to Nepal after the 2008 Batla House encounter and had settled in the Himalayan country. Junaid is also believed to be involved in several other incidents including the 2008 blasts in Jaipur (May 13), Ahmedabad (July 26) and Delhi (September 13).

Ariz Khan alias Junaid, a resident of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh is an accused in five bomb blast cases. "He was planning to revive terrorism in the country with the help of his associates". During his stay in Nepal, he initially ran a restaurant and later on started teaching in different schools, the officer said. "We have managed to nip in the bud efforts to revive these terrorist organisations", he said. "He was ideologically much more radicalised than other members of the IM", police said. Qureshi was arrested last month by Delhi Police.

"For a cover, he worked as a labourer and also met with many sympathizers there", Mr Kushwah said. He later went to Saudi Arabia from where he returned to Nepal in 2017.
