Mikaela Shiffrin waits again as women's slalom postponed

In Pyeongchang, High Winds Are No Breeze for Athletes

Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud questioned the fairness of the downhill run for the men's combined after organisers finally got the Alpine skiing programme underway at the Pyeongchang Olympics after two days of weather postponements on Tuesday.

Austria's Anna Gasser, tipped as one of the favorites, fell on both of her runs and said the event was "not a good show for women's snowboarding", while bronze medalist Enni Rukajarvi said she was "most happy that no one got hurt bad".

"It's a bummer that we're not able to race today", Shiffrin said.

"I wish we could have gone in fair conditions".

After several delays in the schedule, the event was eventually called off as the hurricane-like winds made it impossible for the athletes, including the United States rising star Mikaela Shiffrin, to compete in such weather conditions, reports Efe.

"Weather delays and postponements are just the nature of an outdoor sport", said the American, who has racked up 55 victories on the World Cup circuit.

The men's downhill event was moved to 11 a.m. Thursday, while the men's super giant slalom was pushed back to 11 a.m. Friday.

When her brother speaks in public, she hides behind a pillar, occasionally peeking out as if to make sure that all is going well. Reports have suggested that sponsors were prepared for such an attack, with some having insured themselves against hacking.

The conditions have cause both concern and debate - particularly after the International Ski Federation put off some skiing events, but not the women's snowboard slopestyle, which saw dozens of riders fall on their runs two days ago.

"We felt that the only right thing to do in the end was to go for rescheduling". The women will compete at the Yongpyong Alpine Center used for technical races, and the men will be about 30 miles away at the Jeongseon Alpine Center used for speed races.

"We hope for calm winds tomorrow", he added, warning that it was "too much to hope for windstill". "Neither of those were really achievable today", Kristofic said.

Shiffrin is now slated to race in the giant slalom on Thursday morning in Korea (that's Wednesday night in the U.S.), with the first run scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (8 p.m. ET Wednesday).

But because of the weather, she'll wait yet another day to try to make history.

At the women's giant slalom venue a television camera fell off a podium, narrowly missing a nearby journalist, as winds topped 70 kilometres per hour.
