US President signs major budget bill

Rand Paul

The House moved swiftly early Friday to reopen the federal government and pass a $400 billion budget deal, overcoming opposition from both liberal Democrats and tea party conservatives to endorse enormous spending increases despite looming trillion-dollar deficits.

Russian Federation already looking to interfere in 2018 midterms Dems pick up deep-red legislative seat in Missouri Speier on Trump's desire for military parade: "We have a Napoleon in the making" MORE on Friday expressed displeasure with the government funding bill just moments after he signed the bill into law ending a brief federal shutdown.

Our government could cut military spending, and increase resources to help with the student debt, as well as other social programs.

It was the second shutdown this year under the Republican-controlled Congress and Trump, who played little role in attempts by party leaders this week to end months of fiscal squabbling.

Many of his Republican colleagues are objected to his protest.

Ryan said on Thursday he would bring an immigration bill to the floor that the president would sign.

It will fund the government for six more weeks, raise federal budget caps for two years and lift the nation's debt ceiling for a year.

The shutdown could be brief if the House acts before daybreak to approve the package from the Senate which would prevent any practical interruption in federal government business.

The bill includes $300 billion additional spending on the military and domestic agencies.

United States politicians have passed a bipartisan budget agreement, ending the second government shutdown in as many months.

The bill has the support of the White House, which has highlighted both the increase in military funding as well as infrastructure.

Compared with a year ago, the administration projects lower inflation over the coming decade and lower government borrowing expenses, the Journal reported.

The Trump budget also assumes very low interest rates, with the benchmark ten-year Treasury yield averaging 2.6% this year.

The government has been operating on funding from a series of short-term spending measures.

Richmond also joined Graves in criticizing provisions in the $89 billion disaster-relief package tacked on to the massive spending deal. Markets barely flinched at the last shutdown in January, but that was before a selloff that started on January 30 amid concerns about inflation and higher interest rates. Many who did quickly labeled it a pointless, head-scratching episode.

The legislation stalled in the Senate Thursday night, missing the midnight deadline when Republican Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky refused to vote on time because he wanted to reverse spending increases. Paul had harsh words for his own party. "You know what? I don't see how points alone can make a change in America", said Thom Tillis on the Senate floor. "I can't in all honesty look the other way".

Most Democrats opposed the measure, following the lead of Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who tried and failed to use the moment to secure a promise for a separate vote on immigration.

These young adults were brought illegally to the country as children, mostly from Mexico. If an agreement is not reached by March 5, those immigrants, many of whom now have families and jobs in the United States, would no longer have legal status in the USA and would be subject to deportation.
