Second White House aide quits amid domestic abuse allegations

Trump Defends Accused Domestic Abusers: 'No Recovery for Someone Falsely Accused'

Aides to Donald Trump, especially Kellyanne Conway, made the rounds of the Sunday talk shows to address allegations of domestic violence by recently fired White House staffers - and sounded pretty tone-deaf.

The loudest among those calls is Rep. Sean Maloney, who held the same position as Porter under former President Bill Clinton.

White House legislative director Marc Short denied that Trump personally waived Porter's interim security clearance, as the Federal Bureau of Investigation made further checks on his background, to allow him to handle the highly classified documents that flow to the president's desk.

"Someone whom we know and trusted and worked with came to the president and the chief of staff and said, 'I'm being accused of these things".

Yet the White House's handling of the matters, specifically Porter, has largely focused on Kelly.

"Well, General Kelly tells me otherwise", Conway said.

White House Director of Legislative Affairs Marc Short echoed Conway's comments on "Meet the Press", and disputed reports that Kelly had offered to resign.

On Friday another aide, speechwriter David Sorensen, resigned after his former wife claimed he was violent and emotionally abusive. He had denied the allegations and alleged that he "was the victim of repeated physical violence" during his marriage.

Kelly has come under fire in the wake of Porter's resignation amid reports that the chief of staff knew about the allegations against Porter for months and failed to act.

Conor Hourihane's wonder volley helps Villa to win over Blues
Aston Villa have risen to second in the Championship table thanks to a 2-0 derby win over Birmingham City on Sunday afternoon. Adomah may have turned the game in Villa's favour but the talented Jack Grealish took the individual honours.

"I do think if you put on a political hat, that is a big problem, certainly how we are viewed as Republicans in the next election", Flake added. "Some are true and some are false".

Others in the White House told the newspaper that Mr Kelly had known of the complaints since October.

Still, Conway dismissed the notion that the more than dozen women who have accused Trump of sexual assault deserve due process.

Jessica Corbett described their chaotic marriage to The Washington Post, including allegations that Sorensen ran over her foot with a vehicle, put out a cigarette on her hand and threw her into a wall.

"I think the president, like the rest of us, were shocked and disturbed by the allegations", Conway said on ABC's This Week.

The tendency to avoid, deny, or cover up abuse is never really about power, or money, or an old boys' club.

Stephanopoulos wondered why Trump's sympathies immediately go to a man accused of sexual abuse or harassment. Porter the Trump administration's staff secretary resigned February 7.

The FBI denied Porter's security clearance last fall.

Trump has reportedly been furious over the fallout from the scandal, leading to the speculation over Kelly's job security. He said very strongly yesterday that he's innocent'. The president tweeted, "Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation". "But we absolutely wish him well".
