Pa. Republican leaders meet challenge to redraw congressional districts

The Latest: Republican leaders produce new congressional map

The case has seen many twists and turns, and the end could be near, but depending upon next steps from the governor; the state supreme court; and republican leaders, only time will tell.

House Speaker Mike Turzai and Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati said in a statement Friday that their map "complies fully" with directions from the state Supreme Court.

Now that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has thrown out the current congressional districts as unconstitutional, the Legislature, the governor and the court must now decide to implement a short-term fix or to establish a game-changing precedent.

The revised map is now in the hands of Governor Tom Wolf.

House speaker Mike Turzai said " we got input from our members, and from Senate members, on the Republican side, and together the Republican Senate and the Republican House have submitted a map". He has until Thursday to let the high court know if he supports it.

Democrats hope a new map will help them flip enough seats in Congress to retake the majority.
