Winter Olympics: Men's downhill pushed to Monday due to high winds

Daily Schedule Downhill postponed Kramer takes centre stage

The Pyeongchang Olympic men's downhill has been postponed until Thursday because of strong winds. But three hours before it was supposed to start, race organisers said they needed to reschedule it.

The men's downhill was originally set to start 11 a.m. Sunday at Jeongseon Alpine Centre in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, but the organizers postponed the event because of an unfavorable forecast. The downhill start is at 4,495 feet altitude.

If organizers are not able to stage the race by the end of Wednesday, the downhill will replace the men's Super G in the schedule with the other speed race moving to Friday, now a rest day.

"Today was right at the limit but okay for a training run", Waldner said.

According to race organisers, the lift that carries teams and officials to the top of the mountain could not be operated. A third and final training run Saturday is also at risk.
