US politician Nancy Pelosi sets record with eight-hour long speech

The 77-year-old Pelosi stood for more than eight hours, reading multiple personal stories from "dreamers" and citing Bible passages.

At one point she interrupted herself to read a note from the House historian alerting her that she had delivered the chamber's longest continuous speech, besting Rep. Champ Clark's five-hour, 15-minute stem-winder about tariff reform in 1909.

But top Democrats said they weren't corralling rank-and-file representatives to oppose the budget pact, leading some of the party's immigration advocates to question the forcefulness of her opposition.

"I have no intention of yielding back", Pelosi said at 3:41 p.m.

The House minority leader began her speech at 10:04 local time (4am NZT) - and did not finish until the evening.

"As members of Congress, we have a moral responsibility to act now to protect Dreamers who are the pride of our nation and are American in every way but on paper". She said that personally, she still needed to study what finally passes but it "likely would promise some big challenges for me".

Before Pelosi's speech Wednesday, the longest floor remarks from a leader came from then-House GOP Leader John Boehner in 2009 speaking against the Democrats' cap and trade legislation. The Senate planned to hold votes in the middle of the night and send the budget deal and temporary spending measure over the House by dawn.

It also became the fastest CAPCOM game to do so. "Please wait and try again." would appear and squad features would not be usable. It was introduced in the original Monster Hunter game for PlayStation 2 in 2004 and has been a staple of the series ever since.

"The face of the future for our country is all-American, and that has many versions", she said. When she was four years old, she wrote, she was sexually molested by a 16-year-old boy but her parents didn't report it because they were afraid of being deported. Susan Collins, who hosts the meetings, said "there'll probably be more than one [proposal] but it's too early to tell right now". Pelosi asked after sharing the story of a DACA recipient who made the Forbes "30 Under 30" List, volunteers at a homeless shelter, and is attending medical school. "What's wrong? There's something wrong with this picture", Pelosi said. He went to the University of California - Berkeley but had to deny a scholarship that would have covered most of his tuition because of his immigration status. "I am very much reliant on the people in this room".

"Will America be a stronger country if we deport him and others like him? Of course not we all agree on that", Pelosi said.

Pelosi said she wants House Speaker Paul Ryan to guarantee a vote on an immigration package on the House floor, similar to what Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he would do for the Senate.

"So why can't we have some sort of commitment on this side?"

"It provides what the Pentagon needs to restore our military's edge for years to come", said Ryan. But when the debate might happen - and what kind of bill Trump can support - is still unclear. This is a bipartisan bill.

Trump said we wanted a "bill of love". "It's not a situation where we can hold all our members".

Instead, Democrats' ineffectiveness has angered those same activists and the voters critical in a midterm election year with control of the House at stake. "Give us a vote". "Now we have Republicans hand in hand with Democrats offering us trillion-dollar deficits".
