Star witness in ex-Cuomo aide's corruption trial arrested

Former lobbyist Todd Howe leaves federal court after

NY corruption trial star witness Todd Howe appeared in court in shackles and sweats today.

A judge signed an order Thursday, saying the government notified him that the revocation of Howe's bail was appropriate at this time.

Howe was arrested last night hours after he admitted on the witness stand that he tried to bilk his credit card company after he had signed a cooperation agreement with federal prosecutors.

Howe, from Washington D.C., accrued the charge while visiting NY to meet with prosectors, and tried to get the charge eliminated a month after signing his cooperating agreement.

Howe had been out on bail based on the 2016 plea to bribery and embezzlement.

The spokesman declined to say if Howe - who was on the witness stand for the prosecution four days this week in the Percoco trial - will be back as scheduled on Monday in the lower Manhattan courtroom.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Janis Echenberg, Robert Boone, David Zhou and Matthew Podolsky are prosecuting the case.

Bombing at mosque in Libya's Benghazi kills one, wounds 37 - residents
The blasts occurred during Friday prayers at the small mosque located in the Majouri district, residents said. Libya descended into chaos after the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed ruler Moammar Gaddafi.

Howe, an old friend of Percoco's, has pleaded guilty to felony charges and has been cooperating with the government against Percoco and three executives of two firms, COR Development and Competitive Power Ventures, who are also on trial. Howe admitted that he had stayed at the hotel, the night before meeting with prosecutors in NY.

The former lobbyist also conceded the questioning in Manhattan federal court forced him to realize he'd violated the terms of his cooperation agreement with the feds.

Gitner then asked: "As you sit here now, do you think they're going to rip it up?"

When asked whether he had been lying to the credit card company, Howe agreed: "I believe so, yes".

Howe, the source said, will be arraigned in Manhattan federal court later Friday.

But to have a government witness arrested midway through cross-examination is exceedingly uncommon, and poses an obvious problem for prosecutors when the trial resumes Monday. Howe was expected to appear in court later Friday.

Percoco is accused of pocketing some $300,000 in bribes.

. Gitner later pressed. "Correct", Howe replied.
