Samsung is releasing Android Oreo for the Galaxy S6 series and Note5

Samsung still doesn't like user profiles. Nokia offers the feature

T-Mobile has confirmed that the Galaxy S6 series will soon receive the latest Android updates. The update will initially be available for those who helped beta test the build, and eventually will be rolled out to all users of Samsung's Galaxy S8 flagships. The list was based on a deep dive of the firmware files of the leaked Android Oreo beta for the Galaxy Note 8 (which sadly hasn't received its stable Oreo update yet).

The update weighs in at 2.81 GB and bundles EMUI 8.0 along with Android 8 Oreo. As guaranteed by Samsung, beta analyzers are first in line, with normal clients on Nougat anticipated that would get the update in the following 24 hours.

Apart from the flagship range, Samsung is also to release an Android Oreo-based OTA update for the and, among other devices. This means that T-Mobile and Samsung have both agreed to support Oreo for these devices, and considering that the S6 and S6 edge will be three years old this April, that's pretty incredible.

The Galaxy S8 Oreo update weights in at 487MB, and contains the latest February 2018 security patch. If T-Mobile's information is correct, it will still take some time for the carrier to start pushing the updates to the smartphones.

Notably, Samsung's 2015 flagship smartphones such as the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, and the Galaxy Note 5 were absent from the list. However, some of these phones are more than two-and-a-half years old, which has led some to guess that the company would not roll out the Oreo update for them.

One thing we can say with certainty is that they'll very likely be the last in the queue to receive the updates. Users can go into Settings Software Update Download updates manually to download and install the update.
