Mother gives birth, abandons baby at airport

Woman gives birth and leaves note after abandoning infant son in Arizona airport bathroom as authorities ask for public's help in identifying her

The expectant mother walked into the airport, but later left the premises without her newborn baby after she gave birth to the child inside the restroom, airport authorities said. This new video was released this week as authorities step up their efforts to find the mother.

Tucson airport officials say that a woman who left a newborn in a restroom near the rental auto facility last month may have given birth in another airport restroom. "Please get me to the authorities so they can find a good home", it said, in part.

Authorities described the mystery woman as being aged in her mid-20s and said she was wearing black leggings and a coat.

The note further read in the voice of a newborn: "Please help me".

The baby was found with a torn umbilical cord and responding medics clamped it to prevent any harm, an airport police report said. "I just want what is best for him and it's not me". A rental call employee found the boy and a note.

She told police she had become concerned after spotting "pools of blood" on the bathroom floor. When she asked the woman if she was okay, the suspected mother would only say that the baby was three-months-old and left in a hurry. The newborn is under the care of the Arizona Department of Child Services.

Ms Quintana also found the bloodied clothes in the bathroom rubbish bin.

However, it is not known whether the baby's mother will face charges if found as airports are not considered a "safehaven" under the law.

A spokeswoman for the Tucson Airport Authority, Jessie Butler, told the Arizona Republic that they want to interview the mother and what they learn will determine whether or not she is charged.

Arizona is a "safe haven" state, meaning parents can drop off newborns at designated locations like hospitals and churches if they are unable to care for them.
