Therefore, all the Broadcast Media and Distribution Services Licensees are advised to desist from promoting Valentine Day through their respective channels/networks.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority has advised all TV channels to stop the promotion of Valentine's Day in the light of Islamabad High Court's directives.

On Wednesday (7 February), the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) announced it will comply with the ban.

The Valentine's Day activities have often been disrupted in the past in the Muslim-majority country by the supporters of hardline parties like Jamaat-e-Islami.

A final verdict is yet to be issued in the case, which has been ongoing for more than a year. "The holiday was banned previous year by the Islamabad High Court after a citizen complained the holiday was a western cultural import and 'against the teachings of Islam".

"Valentine's Day has no connection with our culture and it should be avoided", the Pakistani president said, adding that the downsides of Western culture had "adversely affected one of our neighboring countries".

In the past, civic authorities have shrugged off imposition of the ban, saying they can not shut down every business that advertises promotions in relation to the event.
