Rose McGowan's former manager Jill Messick found dead

Jill Messick died by suicide Wednesday amid a slew of media attention her family says made her collateral damage in Rose Mc Gowan and Harvey Weinstein’s war of words

Messick's family says McGowan reported the incident to her without calling it rape, but that Messick, realizing something inappropriate if not illegal had happened, reported it to her senior bosses months before she went to work under Weinstein at Miramax. In a statement released following her death, her family slams McGowan and Weinstein.

After Weinstein was exposed as an alleged serial sexual predator in the New York Times a year ago (Oct17), McGowan accused the disgraced film boss of raping her at the Sundance Film Festival in 1997, while she was managed by Messick.

The family accused McGowan of making "slanderous statements" against Messick, sullying her name and her reputation.

"Jill was victimized by our new culture of unlimited information sharing and a willingness to accept statement as fact", read the statement to THR.

It read: "The speed of disseminating information has carried mistruths about Jill as a person, which she was unable and unwilling to challenge". In a statement released by her family, they commented on the Weinstein/McGowan ordeal at length.

The producer's family said that Messick made a decision to stay silent amid the allegations because she didn't want to silence McGowan.

Messick executive-produced several films including Baby Mama, Mean Girls, Hot Rod and She's All That.

In the statement, Messick's family told the Reporter, "Harvey's desperate attempt to vindicate himself, was devastating for her". They said it "offered the truth based on what she remembers Rose telling her about the Sundance account", but that Weinstein had made it public without Messick's consent. The "Charmed" alum said that she informed Messick and Ben Affleck about Weinstein's misconduct, but both of them denied being told by the actress.

Weinstein also tried to use Messick to his advantage when his attorney released an email attributed to her and in defense of the disgraced producer.

However, in a statement, Messick's family were easy to say that her being dragged into an unfortunate circumstance had largely impacted the exec, whom they revealed had just started to get back on track. In it, she wrote the McGowan had expressed regret about willingly getting into a bathtub with Weinstein.

"Rose never once used the word rape in that conversation".

"The ensuing arrangements between Rose and Harvey were then negotiated, completely without Jill's knowledge", according to The family.

Hollywood executive Jill Messick was been found dead in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal - here's what we know. "Jill believed in the Movement. She never chose to be a public figure; that choice was taken away from her". Messick's family stresses she earned that job on merit.

"She was a fiercely dedicated producer and a kind person", Fey said.
