PFA offers to help resolve Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City standoff

Leroy Sane

Algeria head coach Rabah Madjer has said he understands Mahrez's desire to ply his trade at a higher level but urged the 26-year-old to return training. It's public knowledge about Manchester City wanting to take him.

Mahrez will not be involved as they visit runaway leaders City on Saturday.

It had been previously revealed that the young english winger Patrick Roberts, now on loan at Celtic, was included in as part of City's £65m bid for Mahrez. He wants to go to a bigger club in the English league.

The German's fitness was likely the reason why City accelerated their interest in Mahrez rather than waiting for the summer to bolster their forward line but, given the window was still open, it would be naïve for fans to blame the buying club for unsettling a player when the parameters for mid-season transfers are set as such.

Leicester are now eighth in the Premier League but are just 11 points clear of the bottom three.

Eugenie, 27, will also be getting married there - her wedding to fiance Jack Brooksbank is set for October 12. He has previously expressed that "it would be nice" to be invited to Prince Harry and Meghan's big day.

The PFA offered assistance last week but Mahrez and the club have yet to take up the offer from the players' union.

The rest of Leicester's squad returned to training yesterday morning following the 1-1 draw with Swansea.

However, according to France Football, both Toure and Mangala had also been used as potential makeweights, with Leicester purportedly willing to listen to cash-plus-player (s) deals in order to make up their proposed £95m valuation (although the publication also claim it was in fact around £10m less than that).

How far away that moment is remains a mystery, but the longer Mahrez's sulking lasts the less chance he has of eventually getting the move he obviously craves so much. Absolutely no one is winning from him continuing to stay away.
