Larry Nassar sentenced to at least 40 more years in Michigan prison

Executive Board 'Shocked and Saddened' by Nassar Abuse

Former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, already convicted of molesting young women athletes and sentenced to 175 years in prison, is due to receive a further sentence for his plea of guilty to related charges.

The last of the three sentences was handed down Monday over abuse Nassar committed at the Twistars gymnastics training centre in MI.

Before his sentencing, Nassar offered one final apology to his victims, reciting with no emotion what sounded like the same statement he read in Ingham County Circuit Court on January 24.

The district's superintendent said they became aware through victim impact statements aired on local television of reports of three former students were abused by Nassar when he scheduled treatments on their property.

Judge Janice Cunningham said she did not believe Nassar understood the severity of his crimes after he suggested in a pre-sentencing interview that he had done nothing wrong.

Larissa Boyce - the first to tell a Michigan State University official about Nassar 20 years ago but was not believed - said Friday in a public statement that this moment can not be forgotten.

MSU President Lou Anna Simon and athletic director Mark Hollis both resigned amid accusations that university employees missed numerous opportunities to stop Nassar. She says Nassar fooled parents who were police officers, doctors, engineers.

Over the past three weeks of court hearings, some 200 women, girls and victims' family members confronted Nassar and gave wrenching accounts of his abuse and its lasting damage.

The Eaton County sentence was given after two days of victim impact statements-a total of 65, according to WILX.

Prior to his sentencing, Nassar told the court he was sorry for his actions, and that "it's impossible to convey the depth and breadth of how sorry I am to each and everyone involved". Nassar offered a brief apology in court on Monday to say: "The visions of your testimonies will forever be present in my thoughts". "I am asking you to tell these little girls, tell the young women, tell the watching world, that they are worth everything", she said to the judge.

"I am in awe of each of you and I appreciate your efforts to provide me with your statements, flying in from Europe, all over the country, submitting videos, taking time off of work, missing classes", she said.

Nassar has admitted to using his bare hands to penetrate girls under the guise of medical treatment at the gymnastics club Twistars. He worked for Michigan State and USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians.

He was sentenced earlier this month to 40 to 175 years in prison in a separate MI case. "And now the result will be spending the rest of your life in a small prison cell".
