KIDS SHACKLED: Parents arrested after 12 children found locked up in home

All 13 victims, ranging from the age of 2 to 29, were transported to the Perris Station and interviewed.

Where is the Turpin family home?

When police arrived at the Perris home, about 110 kilometres southeast of Los Angeles, they found several children shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks in dark, foul-smelling surroundings, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. They were given food and drinks and will be provided Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services.

The Turpin family home where police discovered that 13 people had been held captive in filthy conditions with some shackled to beds with chains and padlocks.

All thirteen children were sent to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The Californian home where David and Louise Turpin allegedly put 13 children through torture was also listed as a private school, but it was not inspected by education officials.

The school opened in March 2011, and has just six students.

Public records show that the couple own the nondescript tract house. Neither of them has a serious criminal record.

In one photo the couple are pictured with their children in front of mountains. When she greeted them, Milligan said, "They looked at us like a child who wants to make themselves invisible".

The parents of 13 children in California have been arrested and charged with their torture in freaky circumstances.

The parents were subsequently arrested, deputies said.

The children were very pale, Milligan said. "I thought the kids were homeschooled".

David Turpin's parents, James and Betty Turpin of West Virginia, told ABC News they were "surprised and shocked" at the allegations.

"It was awkward that it was at 9 p.m.at night, but they were in their yard", she said.

"They spoke about them highly", Trahan said, adding the family liked Disneyland in Southern California and visited the park often.
