Winter Olympics 2018: Izzy Atkin stars but Lindsey Vonn struggles

Korea talks

A 140-member North Korean orchestra will perform in South Korea during next month's Winter Olympics, amid a tentative rapprochement after months of tensions over Pyongyang's nuclear programme.

Seoul has been pushing for Pyongyang's involvement in the Olympics and last week's talks, the first in more than two years, appears to have eased tensions between the two neighbours.

An official at Seoul's unification ministry said the North offered to send 230 cheerleaders to the Olympics, and made clear it also meant to take part in the Paralympics in March.

Next month, there will be not one, but two skaters - ice dance darlings Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir - leading the way with the red-and-white Maple Leaf as Canada's Olympic team begins its medal quest at the Pyeongchang Games in South Korea.

7- We also have the International Olympic Committee meeting coming up on Saturday. where the two Koreas are expected to discuss the results of today's talks with the International Olympic Committee in Switzerland.

North Korea is deploying a full range of tactics to gain the upper hand in its negotiations with South Korea, capitalizing on Seoul's strong desire to hold a successful Pyeonchang Olympics. Moon's claim that pressure from US -led sanctions made the talks possible throws cold water on efforts to improve inter-Korean ties, the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency said in a commentary Sunday.

The North has said its delegation would also include officials, athletes, journalists, an art troupe and a taekwondo demonstration team.

The bilateral talks between the two estranged Countries were held last week at the Thongil House in Panmunjom, North Korea. For spectators around the world, scenes of athletes from both North and South Korea competing together will be heartwarming. A conductor and two other officials from a North Korean orchestra will also be part of the delegation, the ministry said.
