White House says judge's blocking end of DACA "outrageous"

DACA | HuffPost

The ruling could complicate ongoing negotiations between congressional Democrats and Republicans trying to reach agreement on a deal to resolve the legal status of almost 700,000 young immigrants covered by the programme. "We must build a Great Wall".

The bill is also filled with other immigration items on Trump's wish list, including a proposal to allow the Justice Department to withhold grant funding to so-called sanctuary cities.

Democrats and other supporters of the so-called DREAMers have called for a legislative implementation of DACA to be attached to a must-pass spending bill that would keep the government funded beyond January 19. Conservatives are wary, fearing he will strike a soft compromise.

President Donald Trump may be onto something.

The NAACP is accusing Trump of "lowbrow, callous and unfiltered racism".

"They are all talk and no action", Trump tweeted. And in his first year in office, Trump continued his commitment to enacting stricter immigration policies.

So if a DACA fix is going to pass, it may happen in a very rare circumstance where most of the votes in the House come from the minority party, the Democrats, which means Democratic leaders are going to have to round up votes from members who oppose Trump's border wall and numerous proposed changes to the legal immigration process.

"We find this decision to be outrageous, especially in light of the President's successful bipartisan meeting with House and Senate members at the White House on the same day", the White House said in a statement.

Trump has decided, for example, to end the TPS status granted to about 200,000 people from El Salvador following a devastating quake in the Central American country.

"He will always reject temporary, weak and risky stopgap measures that threaten the lives of hardworking Americans, and undercut immigrants who seek a better life in the United States through a legal pathway".

One person briefed on the meeting said when Durbin brought up the subject of Haiti, Trump questioned it in vulgar terms and added that the USA should get more people from countries like Norway.

"There are scores of Republicans who have shifted their position to follow the president", said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.

That's according to aides familiar with the pact, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement has not yet been made public. The billion-dollar plan would construct and replace barriers along 700 miles of border, which would cover just under half of the 2,000-mile U.S. -Mexico border.

The plan would also effectively end a visa lottery system aimed at promoting diversity.

Trying to decipher President Trump's positions at Tuesday's White House meeting on immigration probably requires the best neuroscientists in the Texas Medical Center as well as an interpreter.

The comments alarmed and mystified the people attending the meeting. Durbin said that in exchange, people from African countries that have benefited from that lottery would be given other access to visas.

Trump said, "Why do we want all these people from Africa here?"

King said many immigration hard-liners, who were excluded from the White House meeting, are still weighing their options for leverage.

The significance of their agreement was initially unclear.

"The truth is that in the shadows, undocumented individuals and families are being broken apart, people are being raided in their homes and at work and people who are not a threat to the country are being arrested for no reason". Among other things, in order to qualify, DREAMers had to prove they'd been in the US continuously since June 15, 2007.

Trump met with lawmakers at the White House on Tuesday, offering support for an immigration package that would legalize young undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S.as children, known as Dreamers.

Alsup's decision follows on from stands taken by other USA judges to rein in Trump's immigration policies, striking down moves against sanctuary cities and limiting the scope of a ban against travel from some Muslim-majority counties. It's more like a one-sided concession from Trump that he's since tried to walk back by insisting on border wall.

Spokesman Jason Samuels says, "Sen".

On Thursday afternoon, a bipartisan group of six lawmakers led by Sens.

"We certainly don't think any amnesty ever is a good idea, but you also have to live in the real world where you see the administration signaling that they're willing to do some trading in order to resolve the situation", said Eric Ruark, director of research at NumbersUSA.

Pelosi's talking about a group of lawmakers that's blessed by President Donald Trump. DACA won't expire until March, but she notes more than 15,000 have already lost status because they can't renew. He said while he helped head off a bipartisan immigration effort in 2013, "I don't want to promise the result will be the same".

Pelosi asks, "Why now?" "Why now? Except perhaps to delay?" It must agree on a budget resolution to prevent a government shutdown. Trump still wants his border wall, though he's toned down what that means. Top House Democrat Nancy Pelosi of California was dismissive as well.
