Rollable OLED, Micro LED Wall Are CES Display Tech Standouts

LG OLED Canyon Impresses CES Crowds

Samsung have not yet confirmed whether the concept set will enter the consumer market. But, instead of a product you can actually buy, The Wall has been made to show off Samsung's new modular screen technology, which can make displays of any size - and because movie theatres are its intended customer, 146 inches is the entry level... It's modular and can be configured however you like at its biggest, 6 feet by 10 feet.

However, LG Display has developed 8K AMOLED TV panels to prepare for further development of high-end TV market.

"Screens should not be limited by size or space". This comes in handy for consumer applications because each household has varying restrictions on the viewable area on their walls.

According to the Galaxy S9 maker, its Samsung Knox for TV technology implements a hardware root of trust security architecture. But because it is modular, it is much easier to ship and install in a home compared to most of the other very large displays. It's probably still a niche technology, but it is interesting.

LG OLED
The proprietary LG OLED technology is designed to deliver perfect blacks thanks to its ability to turn each pixel on or completely off

MicroLED has some similarities to OLED.

Like OLED, MicroLED pixels are capable of emitting their own light, but replace the organic element of OLED with the inorganic substance, gallium nitride. This allows the MicroLEDs to do away with image quality-sapping colour and polarisation filters as well as backlights, which allows them to rival OLEDs in terms of black detail and colour reproduction. By this, the South Korean giant means that it's possible for cashed-up punters to arrange several displays to create one ultra-massive TV. Now LG Electronics once again took the next developmental step to this quintessential living room appliance with a new 65-inch 4K OLED screen that can be rolled up like a newspaper. Samsung didn't say how all the pieces come together, but the set looked pretty seamless in person.

Touted as a TV with artificial intelligence, the Samsung Q9S packs in some serious processing power to run a sophisticated AI engine that converts any format - be it 4K, FullHD, or SD - into 8K resolution through the magic of upscaling.

But at a press conference held on Monday at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas, the message, tightly woven into the introduction of new refrigerators, a new laptop designed with Note lovers at heart and a revamped line of televisions and screens, was on the creation of a network for the future. The AI engine leverages a multitude of image samples within its database and applies machine learning to create additional detail, reduce noise, and intelligently restore edges to fill up its QLED 8K panel. In contrast, QLED TVs lacked impressive advancements compared to their AMOLED counterparts, leading to lower-than-expected sales.
