People from s***hole nations unwanted in United States, says Trump

President Donald Trump gestures as he responds to reporters asking questions as he walks on the South Lawn upon his return to the White House in Washington Thursday Dec. 21 2017

According to multiple reports, in an oval office meeting on Thursday, President Trump referred to Haiti, El Salvador, and African nations as "sh*thole countries", questioning why the U.S. would see any value in welcoming people from those countries to the US.

After he asked why America accepts immigrants from "shithole" countries like Haiti and El Salvador on Thursday, a debate erupted around the world about whether President Donald Trump is a racist.

President Trump has since denied using such vulgar language, tweeting that 'the language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used.

Trump and the lawmakers had been discussing a visa lottery program that annually allows as many as 50,000 citizens from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the USA to reside in the USA legally, as well as programs that temporarily protect certain immigrants from deportation that the White House is ending.

"It was so disturbing this morning to hear President Trump's comments reported all over the news calling my poor native land and African countries "s...hole" nations", Jean said in a statement to The Canadian Press. He is also a design engineer in the defense industry and a Haitian immigrant who says the portrayal of his country is offensive.

Even Sen. Lindsey Graham, a frequent Trump critic who seems to have come around to the president lately, didn't directly accuse the president of using the term, but he didn't deny it either. "What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!"

Mr Trump was said to have told them that instead of granting temporary residency to citizens of countries hit by natural disasters, war or epidemics, the United States should instead be taking in migrants from countries like Norway.

"Donald Trump is vying for the most racist person that I've met these days", he added. Do we need more Haitians?' "Then he went on and he started to describe the immigration from Africa that was being protected in this bipartisan measure".

"He said these hate-filled things and he said them repeatedly", Durbin said. Richard Durbin of IL, the lone Democrat present in the Oval Office at the time, said Trump's denial was false and the president had said things that were "hate-filled, vile and racist".

"Haitians don't deserve such treatment", said Paul Altidor, the Haitian ambassador.

Florida GOP Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said Trump's comments were "completely unacceptable", telling WPLG-TV in Miami that "if that's not racism, I don't know how you can define it". He has also considered recording all his meetings to prevent similar controversies in the future.
