Vegas gunman had emailed about bump stocks

Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock emailed about bump stocks months before rampage: documents

A USA judge in Nevada unsealed the documents showing some of what federal agents learned about Stephen Paddock in the week after the Las Vegas shooting. The judge did so in response to a lawsuit filed by CNN and other media organizations.

They had been sealed for months, but lawyers for several media companies, including the Los Angeles Times, argued for the release of the information.

Reuters was unable to obtain a copy of the documents on Friday night.

We are slowly learning more about the Las Vegas shooting that left 58 people dead in October 2017.

The Las Vegas gunman exchanged emails about buying rifles and bump stocks months before he carried out the deadliest mass shooting in modern USA history using guns equipped with the device that allows semi-automatic weapons to fire almost as fast as automatic ones. "We have a wide variety of optics and ammunition to try".

A third read: "For a thrill try out bumpfire ar's with 100 round magazine".

The Los Angeles Times reported that investigators were not sure why Paddock would send emails between accounts he controlled, or whether one was controlled by another person. An FBI investigator reportedly said in one of the documents that "investigators need to determine who was communicating with him about weapons that were used in the attack".

One message sent to the account connected to a "Steve P", the documents state.

Authorities have repeatedly stated that Paddock acted alone.

Danley has not been charged in the attack, but according to an affidavit, she was "identified thus far as the most likely person who aided or abetted Stephen Paddock based on her informing law enforcement that her fingerprints would likely be found on the ammunition used during the attack".

Danely offered this information as investigators were preparing to take a DNA swab from her, the records state. She was out of the country when the attack happened, and Danley said after the shooting that she was in the Philippines at the time because Paddock had bought her a ticket to visit family.

The agent also noted: "this aspect of the investigation is still the subject of intense review".

Danely's attorney did not respond to a call or text seeking comment on Friday evening.

Documents posted online by the Review-Journal showed that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents sought information from Microsoft and Facebook regarding the accounts held by Paddock and Danley.

An affidavit notes that Danely's Facebook account was deleted hours after the attack. An agent wrote in the search warrants that "if there were any information related to a potential conspiracy, it would be found within" the locked phone, which operated on the Google platform, meaning that it nearly certainly was not an iPhone.

"The investigation has also revealed that Paddock may have been treated for yet unidentified medical conditions", an agent wrote.
