Trump to undergo medical check as critics question his mental fitness

After an emergency session to discuss Mr Trump's remarks, a group of 54 African ambassadors to the United Nations said it was "concerned at the continuing and growing trend from the USA administration toward Africa and people of African descent to denigrate the continent and people of colour".

President Trump addressed reporters at the White House on October 25.

The normally routine examination coincided with swirling questions about Trump's physical and medical fitness for office.

Michael Wolff, author of 'Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, ' has claimed that Donald Trump lacked the mental fitness to serve as president, describing him as an "undisciplined man-child" who did not want to win the election. He was backed in this by his long-term doctor, Harold Bornstein, who penned a letter in December 2015 declaring: "If elected, Mr Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency".

A White House readout released shortly before the Cabinet meeting said the president had told Moon he was open to talks with North Korea "at the appropriate time, under the right circumstances". Previous presidential physicals have also mostly excluded mental acuity readings, at least that are disclosed to the public. He says this administration needs to focus on a more comprehensive approach to fixing issues facing veterans rather than executive orders.

The physical test will last around two hours and include blood and urine tests, heart checks and even questions about his sleeping habits and other idiosyncrasies. In George W. Bush's first exam as president, his doctor noted he enjoyed the occasional cigar, drank diet soda and ran 12 miles a week. They did not say if he would undergo other screenings, such as cognitive and neurological exams.

The APA said it has confidence that Trump's physician will conduct an age-appropriate medical and mental health evaluation. The White House has called it "complete fantasy".

Earlier this month, the president praised himself as "not smart, but genius. and a very stable genius at that", following the release of a bombshell new book that called into doubt his mental health.

CBS News reported that White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson, M.D., who also treated former president Obama, will administer the physical. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded to the questions that arose from that incident by saying he was merely parched, and that speculation about his mental stability were "frankly, pretty ridiculous". The letter revealed that Trump took a daily aspirin and a low dose of statin, a drug used to lower cholesterol.

The Commander in Chief will get his first medical checkup since taking office.

Meanwhile, the president also addressed his latest call with South Korean President Moon Jae-In, who Mr. Trump says, was thankful for the role the US played in the talks between North Korea and South Korea this week over the North's participation in the Winter Olympics.
