The Great Amazon-Google Smackdown Hits the Vegas Strip

The Great Amazon-Google Smackdown Hits the Vegas Strip

Google is using CES to push its smart assistant technology to just about every aspect of the home, much the way Amazon did with Alexa a year ago.

Neither Apple Inc's assistant Siri nor Microsoft Corp's Cortana are now available on a speaker with a tablet-like display.

According to an announcement made by Google at CES, the company's Google Assistant is now on Android Auto. The Google Assistant recently pushed to LG's Smart Speakers. While it may quote 400 million devices with Assistant access, most are Android smartphones rather than the smart speakers or other devices that we've seen Alexa proliferate on.

In November, Google launched out an upgrade that will permit you to employ Home devices in your house as intercom systems. This week, we saw the Jabra Elite Active 65t wireless earbuds, which have Alexa built-in. The integration should be complete within the first half of the year. This is a huge boost for Amazon, even if it makes things a little awkward with Microsoft's Cortana. Microsoft has announced that its voice-based digital assistant is here to stay.

M - After a holiday season where many Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant-enabled devices were exchanged as gifts, in-car technology continues with its march toward fully integrating your vehicle into the tech lifestyle. The front-facing camera will come in handy for video calling, using Google Duo. And why Google is considering a new look for its online store and strategizing about turning its virtual assistant into a platform for buying products and services. It runs on Android Things, a special version of Android designed for smart home kit, with a custom UI adapted for the small screen. From massive physical and digital billboard ads, to giant gumball machines, and a presence at more than 200 partner booths, the Google Assistant appears everywhere you turn.

For more of Mashable's CES 2018 coverage, . This means that, at least for some products, you won't have to choose sides, and can control devices using whichever voice assistant you're in the mood for.

It feels as though Amazon has swapped roles with Google. Increasingly, voice assistants are becoming a big part of that mobile equation. Ready or not, it's already happening.
