Social media and government schools in Jammu and Kashmir are spreading a "disinformation campaign" resulting in radicalisation of youths, army chief Gen. Bipin Rawat said on Friday, and called for "some control" over mosques and madarsas in the state. Once winter gets over, we can expect movement again.
Asked about the "pressure" being exerted on Pakistan by U.S., he said: "It would be premature to say what will be the impact of the pressure". "The time has come for India to shift focus to its northern border", he said while adding that "the country was capable of handling China's assertiveness along it". Why are they taking risks?
"China is a powerful country but we are not a weak nation..." The event provides an opportunity for the stakeholders to interact and understand the requirements of each other and respond in a way to bring coherence in the system that will eventually strengthen their partnerships and enhance the National preparedness level. Rawat said the troops "were ready to cater" to any situation should the need arise. He said that all ceasefire violations initiated by India on the Line of Control (LoC) are part of counter-terrorism action where only Pakistan army posts that are being used to launch terrorists into Kashmir are targeted.
He said the Army, having focused its operations in South Kashmir in 2017, would now shift its attention to areas in North Kashmir such as Baramulla, Pattan, Handwara, Kupwara, Sopire and Lolab.

Former US Ambassador Khalilzad Supports Tough Line On Pakistan
Islamabad has repeatedly dismissed USA assertions that it's harboring terrorists and doing too little to fight extremists. The US yesterday announced that it is withholding its United States dollars 255 million military aid to Pakistan.
"US has exerted pressure on Pakistan, but there are compulsions on USA also to maintain relation with Pakistan", Gen Rawat said adding that both Pakistan and the U.S. understand this.
The Army chief was sceptical about US President Donald Trump's stern warning to Pakistan against harbouring terrorists leading to any concrete change on the ground as far as India was concerned. "Dealing with ceasefire violations, LoC, terrorists, the Army has been told by the government to conduct operations as it deems fit", Gen Rawat asserted. "It is again and again asking for going back to the 2003 ceasefire because of the pain felt", the Army chief said.
"The casualties which Pakistan has suffered are three to four times more than we did".
