Internet meme has teens eating laundry detergent pods

Dangerous challenge on social media focusing on laundry pods

However, the video compilation shows that the Tide Pod Challenge is growing in popularity, with more teens placing laundry pods in their mouths. The caption: "I don't regret it". That article came after reports and cautions to parents about the dangers of the new laundry pods to toddlers, who thought they looked like candy. "No one should be putting anything like that in their mouths, you know?"

"When these pods are ingested, they contain a large amount of detergents and surfactants which can burn the esophagus all the way down to the stomach".

Medical experts say the consequences of ingesting these products can be dire.

The American Associations of Poison Control Centers says there's been a steep spike in teens misusing the laundry pods. Soon enough, the ideas turned into reality, giving birth to one of the social media's deadliest trends in the recent times.

At the same time, the absorbable portions of the laundry pod that have made their way into your stomach and GI tract can migrate into your bloodstream and vital organs, including your brain.

According to ABC News, already in 2018, there have been a number of cases of teens misusing laundry pods.

He was referring to Trump's asking, during an Oval Office meeting with lawmakers, why the USA should admit more immigrants from "shithole countries" in Africa.

Unfortunately, the Tide Pod Challenge is already the second unsafe trend of 2018. We found videos on YouTube and Facebook from as far back as 2012 and 2013 that involved squeezing the pods until they burst.

The new trend requires the challenger to post a video of themselves online eating the raw or cooked laundry detergent pod.

CBS quotes Procter & Gamble, maker of Tide products, as saying: "They should not be played with".

We reached out to the company that makes Tide Pods.

A viral 2017 video by the College Humor web site captured the somewhat perverse allure that biting into Tide pods holds for some people.

At the moment, the Tide pod challenge appears to be a joke and it does not seem that anyone has actually eaten the pods yet.
