Faison takes issue with Sessions' marijuana directive

The move comes amid a stepped-up effort to battle Iran's growing influence in the Middle East

When Winston Churchill's party lost an election in 1945, evicting him from the job of prime minister of Britain, his wife ventured that the defeat might be "a blessing in disguise".

Jeff Sessions is rescinding an Obama-era policy and going against the states that have legalized marijuana.

If members of Congress object to enforcing certain laws, then the answer is to amend the law, not ask the attorney general to illegally ignore the law. Federal prosecutors could begin raiding marijuana dispensaries, and even go after users. The group, made up of law enforcement personnel, drug treatment and mental health professionals and others, was formed five months ago to combat the rising tide of risky drugs that are killing many Americans every day. By threatening an assault on a sector that has established itself across the country, Sessions has picked a fight he is bound to lose. He seems at odds with the 29 states (and the District of Columbia) that allow medical use of marijuana. Statements such as U.S. Attorney Hayes' may be the only "assurances" marijuana-related business will have to rely on moving forward.

This month the state is poised to make history, becoming the first to legalize marijuana through a legislative measure and not a state-approved ballot initiative.

For example, San Jose, Oakland and Berkeley all have a local tax of 9.25 percent while the local tax in San Francisco is 8.5 percent Medicinal marijuana patients who hold a valid Medical Marijuana Identification Card are exempt from paying sales tax.

"This will make it more hard but what Attorney General Sessions needs to realize is that 45 states in America have some form of cannabis available to their people".

Trump advisers such as White House counsel Donald McGahn and Kellyanne Conway have spoken to the president on Sessions' behalf, noting his policy successes such as helping to reduce illegal border crossings, The Post reported.

Rallying: Loeb wins Dakar fourth stage, Sunderland out injured
Van Beveren faces some tough competition from Honda's Kevin Benavides and Red Bull KTM's Matthias Walkner. The temperature will drop sharply with there is also possibility of heavy rain.

Fellow GOP Sens. Dean Heller of Nevada, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Rand Paul of Kentucky objected.

"I realize this may be an unfashionable belief in a time of growing tolerance of drug use". But the more than 100 million Americans who have consumed cannabis, and particularly the 35 million who enjoy it on a regular basis, know better.

As others have noted, the attorney general seems bent on proving you don't have to be stoned to be detached from reality.

He is also inviting a backlash.

Democratic Gov. -elect Phil Murphy, a former Goldman Sachs executive, has pledged to sign legislation into law that would allow for the possession and sale of recreational marijuana. Josh Miller, a Democrat from the Providence area, introduced a pot legalization bill.

Earlier this week during a conference call with regional media, Reed told WRFA that while he does support the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes, he doesn't now support legalizing it for recreational use. His legislation has attracted increased attention - including from one MA congressman - in the week since Sessions revoked an Obama-era policy that had essentially given the green light to state-sanctioned cannabis commerce. She may find little opposition. A bill in the U.S. Senate, S.1689, the Marijuana Justice Act, would end marijuana prohibition at the federal level and turn it over to the states. Most attempts by state legislatures to decriminalize marijuana have bogged down in questions of how to enforce the drug's use, Candelora said.

His position is more likely to boost support for legalization than to diminish it. Keeping it listed alongside the highly-addictive and far more risky heroin and cocaine makes no sense given what's been seen in Alaska and elsewhere it has been legalized. Ron Paul: Sessions should be fired over marijuana decision.
