Things You Need to Know About the Trump-Bannon Breakup

Then-presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally

There are so many explosive quotes in author Michael Wolff's new book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House", that it's been hard for the media to keep up - even a media who's familiar with the fast-paced news cycle in the Trump era.

The president said on Wednesday that Bannon "lost his mind" when he was sacked and actually had little to do with Trump's election success.

One chapter details a conversation between Trump and his wife Melania regarding the publication of outtakes from a nude photo shoot she had done early in her modelling career.

Wolff spent Friday morning defending the book on NBC's "Today" show. Mr Trump has promised to address the situation, but his "opioid czar" Kellyanne Conway does not appear to be at Camp David.

Asked to clarify what he meant when he wrote that Trump's entire circle questioned his fitness for office, Wolff said, "100 percent of the people around him".

Fire and Fury unleashed a storm in Washington, D.C., largely because the book claimed to reveal statements from Bannon that undergirded the Democrat line on Trump's alleged "collusion" with Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

In response, the publisher moved the book's release date from next week to January 5, citing unprecedented demand.

Some of the claims in Wolff's book include Trump's belief that he was not going to defeat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, and that his wife, Melania Trump, was upset when did win. Steve was rarely in a one-on-one meeting with me and only pretends to have had influence to fool a few people with no access and no clue, whom he helped write phony books. They also sent a "cease and desist" letter to Stephen Bannon, Trump's former chief strategist.

On Thursday, lawyers representing the president called on the book's publishers to stop the book's release.

But Trump said Wolff "was never in the Oval Office" and "we didn't have an interview".

"Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency", Trump said in a statement released by the White House earlier this week.

In 2009, Wolff published "The Man Who Owns the News", a book about media business leader Rupert Murdoch.

Michael Wolff's new book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House", slams the Trump campaign with plenty of accusations and claims that raised some eyebrows. In a series of tweets, Mr Trump denied ever speaking to Mr Wolff for the book and lashed out at his one-time adviser Steve Bannon, dubbing him "sloppy Steve".

Here are five things to know about the Trump-Bannon breakup, and whether or not they can fix the rift.

He added: I spoke to people who spoke to the President on a daily, sometimes minute-by-minute basis.
