Nissan Shows Brain-to-Vehicle Technology

If you won't use your brain our machine will use it for you, Nissan tells drivers

Developed through the auto giant's "Intelligent Mobility" programme, the so-called Brain-to-Vehicle (B2V) technology, which will be demonstrated at this month's CES event in Las Vegas, draws on recent advances in neuroscience and is claimed to be the first real-time brain monitoring system of its kind for automotive applications.

The company's Brain-to-Vehicle, or B2V, technology promises to speed up reaction times for drivers and will lead to cars that keep adapting to make driving more enjoyable.

The new system, part of Nissan's "Intelligent Mobility" programme will require you to wear a device to measure brain wave activity while you're in the driver's seat. By anticipating intended movement, the onboard systems are able to take appropriate actions such as turning the steering wheel or slowing the vehicle as much as 0.2 to 0.5 seconds faster than the driver can manage manually, while at the same time remaining mostly imperceptible.

It can also be used to detect and evaluate driver discomfort, and the car's embedded artificial intelligence can then change the driving configuration or driving style when in autonomous mode.

Other potential uses include adjusting the vehicle's internal environment, said Dr. Lucian Gheorghe, senior innovation researcher at the Nissan Research Center in Japan, who's leading the B2V research.

Nissan is attempting to humanise autonomous driving technology by implementing Brain-to-Vehicle technology into its fleet.

The autonomous system can brake, steer, and accelerate around 0.2 to 0.5 seconds faster than a human.

Eric Hosmer reportedly offered seven-year deal to stay with Royals
Hosmer, who turned only 28 in October, is a divisive player seen in different lights by baseball people and the stat community. Hosmer has also been known as a great clubhouse player as well, which why the potential move to re-sign him is so intriguing.

The driver is still responsible for most of the driving, but the B2V technology can brake, steer, or accelerate the vehicle around 0.2 to 0.5 seconds faster than a human, according to our sister site ZDNet.

B2V was developed by Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company's unit for transforming how cars are powered and driven.

The ultimate goal, according to Gheorghe, is for future cars with smart navigating features to deliver a better riding experience that will apply to both drivers and passengers.

In the future, cars will not only be able to drive autonomously, they also may be able to read your mind.

Nissan claims that its B2V technology is the first of its kind in the world.

The new technology will be demonstrated from 9 to 12 January at CES 2018. This concept appears to be a type of co-driving system, where neither the driver nor the vehicle completely dominates operations.

Automakers are checking out the ways to keep driving relevant as beginners such as Alphabet Inc.'s Waymo and Apple Inc. aim to overthrow the industry with completely autonomous technologies.
