Man Who Aided Baltimore Hospital Patient Discharged in Gown Shocked

A viral video that has many outraged was shot right here in Baltimore

"Part of the challenge that we face and the responsibility that we have is to take on those challenges of both healthcare delivered and, the best that we can, address the social needs of our patients as they come into the organization and when they leave", Suntha said.

In one of the videos, Baraka said the staff at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Midtown Campus left a woman, only in her hospital gown, near a bus stop Tuesday night when the weather was about 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit.

He did not say what the patient was being treated for, citing her privacy rights.

The woman was filmed standing by herself at a bus stop in nothing but a hospital gown.

He described frigid temperatures in the 30s and a cold wind blowing at the woman's hospital gown, exposing her to the elements.

Baraka, who said he has a psychotherapy practice in a building across the street from the hospital, said he rushed back to his office and grabbed his cellphone to return and record events, growing increasingly angry. The temperature outside was below freezing, and according to the video posted on YouTube, the hospital staff involved refused to answer any questions.

"We firmly believe what occurred Tuesday night does not reflect who we are", said Mohan Suntha, the hospital's president and chief executive. He continues to have mobility and memory problems, she said, and he lost his job as a laborer at an engineering firm. They are not a homeless shelter or drug treatment centers...'

The city of Los Angeles began a crackdown on hospital dumping about a decade ago after several incidents there, particularly along Skid Row, where numerous city's homeless people live. A guard turns around and offers a vague explanation: "Due to the circumstances of what it was".

"Then you all need to call the police", replied Baraka, a licensed counselor.

"'UMMC will be known for providing high value and compassionate care, improving health in Maryland and beyond, educating future health care leaders and discovering innovative ways to advance medicine worldwide, '" he wrote, quoting the medical center's vision. "You try to get them to the best place possible, and that's not the bench in front of the hospital".

Hospital officials said they are still working to determine how to respond. "We are taking this matter very seriously, conducting a thorough review, and are evaluating the appropriate response, including the possibility of personnel action".

"In the end, we clearly failed to fulfill our mission with this patient".

He is heard in the video asking the hospital's security officers several times why they put the woman out of the hospital.
