Heat's Waiters (ankle) might opt for season-ending surgery

Miami Heat

A report indicated that Waiters was contemplating getting surgery on his ankle after speaking to multiple doctors on how to proceed.

Dion Waiters is expected to have season-ending surgery on his injured left ankle, according to Yahoo's Shams Charania. Waiters sought a second opinion in hopes of avoiding the end to his 2017-18 season, but the decision to shut it down has reportedly been reached. His recovery time is four to six months.

Waiters, 26, first suffered the left ankle injury last season, causing him to miss the final 13 games of the season.

The Heat are now on a six-game winning streak and are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Waiters' stats aren't mind-blowing: 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, shooting just 39.8% from the field and 30.6% from three-point range in 30 games played. Waiters is due to receive a $1.1 million bonus if he plays at least 70 games this season.
