Gretchen Carlson will serve as chair of the Miss America Organization board of directors

Onetime Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson takes the helm of the organization, a move that sits well with Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan.

But in a matter of days, Haskell, Miss America president Josh Randle and board chair Lynn Weidner all resigned.

But now one of the women who called for change is poised to make that change happen.

But critics of the organization, including Carlson, who won the Miss America title in 1989, said the steps were not sufficient to clean house at the pageant.

"Everyone has been stunned by the events of the last several days, and this has not been easy for anyone who loves this program", Carlson said in a statement issued by the Miss America Organization.

It said Shindle, a Moorestown native who was Miss America 1998, will join the organization's board of directors, along with Laura Kaeppeler Fleiss, Miss America 2012, and Heather French Henry, Miss America 2000.

Liberal Democrat leader Mr Rennie said: "The pressure faced by the NHS has been coming for years, it was largely predictable". But in a stark warning, it adds: 'The facts remain, however, that the NHS is severely and chronically underfunded.

Three Miss America executives resigned in December after HuffPost reported they had been degrading former pageant winners in internal emails.

Haskell forwarded the email to Miss America telecast lead writer Lewis Friedman and noted, "Not a single day passes that I am not told some frightful story about Mallory".

Shindle was also the subject of a nasty Haskell email in which he joked that he wished she would die.

The revelations caused Dick Clark Productions, the group's television sponsor, to cut ties with the long-standing pageant.

Carlson seems up to the challenge, saying in a statement that the new board members will "continue an ongoing inclusive and transparent process to identify additional new board members and management".

In making the announcement the Organization noted that most of the board's previous directors have resigned. According to Dan Meyers, the interim Board Chairman, resignations from the Board were timed to ensure the organization had a continuing governance structure.
