Khorana did stints in research institutions in Switzerland and Canada before landing at the Institute for Enzyme Research and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Khorana lived in many countries throughout his life. After his graduation and masters from Panjab University, Lahore Khorana moved to England for his doctoral studies at the University of Liverpool. He lived in India until 1945 when he was awarded a Government of India Fellowship, which allowed him to travel to the United Kingdom and study for a Ph.D at the University of Liverpool. He worked under Professor Vladimir Prelog in Zurich for one year and continued his reserch.
