NY bombing suspect reportedly posted Trump 'failed to protect' US

New York bombing suspect's wife 'didn't know about radicalization'

Kim said a search of Ullah's Brooklyn apartment revealed metal pipes, pieces of wires and metal screws consistent with the bomb materials recovered at the scene.

The bungled attack came less than two months after Sayfullo Saipov, an immigrant from Uzbekistan, drove a truck into pedestrians in lower Manhattan, killing eight people and injuring 12 others.

According to police, Ullah had a suicide-bomb vest that detonated prematurely at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, a block from Times Square and one of the busiest commuter hubs.

Law enforcement officials said Ullah had been in the U.S. for seven years and lived in Brooklyn with his mother, sister and two brothers. Nobody knew that for almost an hour, Ullah was allegedly on the train with a crudely made pipe bomb strapped to his chest with Velcro and zip ties.

Ahmad Ullah, a relative of Ullah, who Reuters tracked down on Tuesday, said his cousin's father had moved to the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka with his family many years ago.

Investigators in Bangladesh were questioning Ullah's wife, according to two officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Donald Trump has said he would end immigration provisions in response to the attack.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo called the underground explosion "one of our worst nightmares". The suspect was taken into custody after the device partially exploded.

Ullah could be arraigned as early as today at Bellevue Hospital, where he is recuperating from burns and cuts to his hands and stomach, law enforcement sources said. Because it was strapped to Ullah, the assumption is that he had been prepared to die a suicide bomber.

Shameem Ahsan, consul general of Bangladesh in NY, said Ullah was a green card holder.

Akayed Ullah is pictured in an undated photo released by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. "The suspect is a lawful permanent resident who benefited from extended family chain migration", the spokesman said. Citizens have been able to apply for spouses, parents, children, siblings and the siblings' spouses and minor children; the would-be immigrants are then screened by USA officials to determine whether they can come.

The bomb, however, did not fully explode, leaving Ullah injured and three others slightly hurt.

John Miller, NYPD's Deputy Commissioner for Counterterrorism, said Tuesday on CBS "This Morning" that Ullah didn't seem to have any obvious problems. "They are being interrogated".

"Bangladesh is committed to its declared policy of "Zero Tolerance" against terrorism, and condemns terrorism and violent extremism in all forms or manifestations anywhere in the world, including Monday morning's incident in New York City", the South Asian nation's government said in a statement.

His family was "deeply saddened" by the attack but also "outraged by the way we have been targeted by law enforcement", the family said in a statement sent by the New York Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
