Actresses Will Wear Black To The Golden Globes To Protest Sexual Harassment

And January's Golden Globes will be no different.

PEOPLE reports that many major actresses - included those nominated and presenting - will be wearing all-black as a symbol of protest against harassment in Hollywood.

To which we say, "We salute you".

Expect to see a lot of black on the red carpet at the 2018 Golden Globes. This coordinated sartorial initiative is certainly not unprecedented, but it's hard to ignore the striking choice of black to send a political message about the gravity of the issue - sexual assault, harassment and abuse of power - in combination with the black being worn for the entire outfit, not just a ribbon.

In 2014, documentary filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom (who's also the founder and CEO of The Representation Project, an organization seeking to eradicate all stereotypes as barriers to success) came up with the #AskHerMore campaign, urging red carpet reporters to move beyond the fluff questions for women.

Since then, a number of other high profile men have been accused of inappropriate behaviour, including Kevin Spacey, George HW Bush, Jeremy Piven, Brett Ratner, Dustin Hoffman, Steven Seagal, Louis CK, Jeffrey Tambor and Matt Lauer. "All the stylists who already did fittings are now changing out their clients' original picks for Globes (potentially shifting those dresses to the SAG Awards or other carpets)".

The decision to make the awards an "All Black Affair" follows the announcement that all presenters at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards will be female.

Men will still participate in the ceremony, introducing clips for the nominees in the film ensemble category as is tradition, and obviously male winners will take the stage.
