Thousands rally at US Embassy in Indonesia amid anger over Jerusalem decision

Thousands of Indonesian Muslims protested Sunday in Jakarta against US President Donald Trump s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in the latest global show of solidarity with the Palestinians.

The protesters are carrying banners reading "US Embassy, Gets Out from Al Quds", "Free Jerusalem and Palestinians" and "We are with the Palestinians".

"Our hope is that everything is calming down and that we are returning to a path of normal life without riots and without violence", Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Army Radio. Israel says that all of Jerusalem is its capital, while Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of a future independent state.

The commander, who stole the apples from a Palestinian vendor escaping clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian protestors, has become a fun subject on social media.

OIC should declare Jerusalem as capital city of Palestine
The Extra-ordinary Summit has been called by the President of Turkey in his capacity as the Chair of OIC. Saudi Arabia will be represented by Islamic Affairs Minister Salih bin Abdulaziz al-Shaikh.

In public remarks on Sunday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, a frequent critic of Israel, called it an "invader state" and a "terror state". It is likely to upend the current peace process.

Last Wednesday, Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and ordered the U.S. embassy be moved from Tel Aviv.

The White House has rejected that claim, with Pence's office saying Sunday, "the administration remains undeterred in its efforts to help achieve peace between Israelis and Palestinians and our peace team remains hard at work putting together a plan".

The protest on Sunday, organised by the Islamist Prosperous Justice Party, was the second since U.S. president Donald Trump's decision on Thursday.
