Google Pulls Down Apps Section From The Web Store On Google Chrome

Chrome Apps are dead, as Google shuts down the Chrome Web Store section

The removal of apps from the Chrome Web Store was actually first announced by Google back in August 2016. We were also aware of it that Google would drop Chrome web apps from Linux, Mac and Windows.

According to Ars Technica, Google is directing developers towards a different way for desktop: Progressive Web Apps (PWA). These applications which are already being rolled out for Chrome on Android and will function more like full-fledged applications with push notification capabilities and an installable app icon. The company in its blog post states that this was a step in direction of shutting down the standalone Chrome apps that nobody really downloaded for their browsers. Google has started sending out emails to Chrome app developers telling them that Chrome Apps are deprecated, and while previously installed apps still work, the functionality will be stripped out of Chrome in Q1 2018.

Google, in a blog post from August past year, said that the apps project had failed, with just about 1 percent of the total users from Windows, Mac, and Linux actually installing and using them on the Chrome browser. However, Chrome users who just browse the web will still be able to download and install extensions and themes.

The company's two-wheelers are shipped to about 60 countries and in most of the markets the Apache RR 310 will be sold shortly. The 312.2cc, single-cylinder, DOHC motor which makes 34hp at 9,700rpm and 27.3Nm at 7,700rpm, is powering the TVS RR 310.

All types of Chrome apps will remain supported and maintained on Chrome OS for the foreseeable future.

PWAs already work on the Chrome app for Android devices.

Google removes apps from Chrome web browser. Most Android browsers including Opera, Firefox and the Samsung mobile browser support PWAs, so this looks like the way forward. "We have been investigating ways to simplify the transition for developers that depend on exclusive Chrome App APIs, and will continue to focus on this - in particular the Sockets, HID and Serial APIs". Google says it's planning to bring PWA desktop apps to Chrome sometime in mid-2018.
