Whistleblower: At inauguration, Flynn texted on nukes

National security adviser General Michael Flynn arrives to deliver a statement next to Press Secretary Sean Spicer during the daily briefing at the White House in Washington U.S

At some point before President Trump's inauguration, disgraced national security adviser Michael Flynn assured an ex-business partner that economic sanctions against Russian Federation would be "ripped up" as soon as the new administration entered the White House, according to documents made public on Wednesday.

Quoting a confidential informant, Rep. Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, wrote that Alex Copson, managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners, told the informant that Flynn would see that the sanctions on Moscow were "ripped up". The change would allow a business venture Flynn had worked on - nuclear power plants - to be built with the former partner. Trey GowdyHarold (Trey) Watson GowdyGowdy: FBI has had a "really bad last 18 months' Benghazi panel used 0K in taxpayer money to settle wrongful termination lawsuit Congressional investigators make first evidence requests in Russian Federation nuclear bribery case MORE (R-S.C.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee".

"I believe the American people want Congress to hold President Trump and his Administration accountable, and they are exhausted of Republicans in Congress putting their heads in the sand when faced with credible allegations of grave abuses while at the same time conducting investigations of allegations against Secretary Clinton that were debunked years ago", Cummings wrote.

The whistleblower, who provided his account to Cummings in June, said he was with Alex Copson, managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners, a key Flynn ally on the nuclear project, on January 20, Inauguration Day. Flynn also reportedly promised that sanctions on Russian Federation would be "ripped up", allowing the deal to move forward.

In his letter, Mr. Cummings also said that his staff had been in consultations with Mr. Mueller's team, which brought the criminal charge against Mr. Flynn. Cummings and committee Democrats have complained that Gowdy has stiff-armed the Flynn investigation since he took over the committee in June by consistently refusing to issue subpoenas to the White House and various administration officials, Flynn's consulting firm and his business colleagues related to the matter.

Neither Gowdy nor Flynn's attorney, Robert Kelner, responded immediately to a request for comment.

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us", Copson said, according to the whistleblower.

The White House referred inquiries to Trump's personal White House attorney, Ty Cobb, who declined to comment.

Reuters last week published documents that showed Copson and other plan proponents believed they had Flynn and Trump in their corner.

Gowdy did not immediately respond to requests for comment. According to the whistleblower, Copson "described the project as involving a joint partnership between the United States and Russian Federation relating to the energy sector in the Middle East". On Inauguration Day, Copson reportedly said "this is the best day of my life" because of "the start of something I've been working on for years, and we are good to go".

On Friday, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about conversations he had in December 2016 with the Russian ambassador to the United States about the sanctions, among other topics.

Flynn was involved in the Middle Eastern nuclear project from spring 2015 to the end of 2016, according to recent financial disclosure filings, a period that overlapped with his role as a prominent adviser to Trump's campaign and transition.
