Guardiola talks up City's chances

Tim Sherwood suggests what Southampton star Nathan Redmond really meant with response to Man City boss Pep Guardiola

The 22-year-old has managed 13 goals in 19 appearances for City during the 2017-18 campaign, with his form key in helping the Citizens open up a healthy lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The City boss claimed he was merely complimenting the England midfielder on what a good player he was.

'I told him I was doing what my Manager had asked me to do in the game.

"Winning against Liverpool at home, winning at Stamford Bridge (Chelsea), winning against Napoli, against Shakhtar at home, they're both complicated teams", he said.

The former Barcelona manager was forced to answer to the FA, who wanted to know what the meeting between the two men consisted of.

'I was telling Nathan Redmond how good he is at the end, ' he said after City's 2-1 win. "But they didn't want to play, they were time-wasting from the ninth minute". I never judge and never will judge the way my opponents play against my team.

"I think it's maybe an inner hunger [from Sterling], maybe that desire to be amongst the best". I understand completely to attack with the set pieces.

Pep Guardiola has joked he would ban Manchester City players from social media if it made them play as well as Raheem Sterling. "It's the same as I do to beat them". Last season he destroyed us here. "Nothing negative or offensive was said towards me from Pep and that's what makes him one of the best managers in world football". All the managers want to help their players because if they play bad we'll be sacked.

As for Redmond's Saints, they travel to Bournemouth having won just one of their last five matches.

"I'm anxious about the bookings but West Ham as well, we'll see the team", he said.

And nine points from those games will be a must, if they are to remain in the title race.
